Dear Mountain View School District Families,
We are excited to welcome our students back to school on Thursday, August 13, for the start of the 2026–27 school year!
There is something special about the beginning of a new school year—the excitement of seeing familiar faces, meeting new teachers and classmates, and beginning another year filled with opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed.
This year, our District theme is “Together We Belong.” It reflects our commitment to ensuring that every student and family feels welcomed, valued, connected, and supported throughout Mountain View School District. Belonging is something we create together—in our classrooms, on our campuses, and through the relationships we build with one another. We look forward to partnering with you to make this a wonderful year for every student.
An important part of belonging is being present. As we look ahead to Attendance Awareness Month in September, we are also continuing our Districtwide message, “Success Starts with Showing Up.” Every day at school matters. Consistent attendance helps students stay connected to their teachers and classmates, build strong learning habits, and make the most of every opportunity available to them. We appreciate our families’ partnership in helping students arrive at school each day, on time and ready to learn.
We are also continuing our Districtwide Literacy Plan this year, building on the academic progress our students have made and strengthening the supports that help every student become a confident reader, writer, thinker, and communicator. Through focused instruction, targeted supports, and the continued dedication of our teachers and staff, we look forward to building on those gains throughout the 2026–27 school year.
As you prepare for the first day of school, please remember that the Mountain View School District has student uniform policy. Our uniform guidelines help promote a positive school climate and support an environment focused on learning. Please speak to your child’s school about the uniform policy including the potential for a waiver if you wish for your child to not wear a uniform to school.
MVSD Uniform Guideline Key Points
• Pants and Shorts: Solid navy blue or tan. Pants must fit appropriately at the waist. Navy blue sweatpants are permitted.
• Shirts and Blouses: Solid white, light blue, or navy blue collared shirts, including polo, oxford, turtleneck, or mock turtleneck styles. Shirts and blouses must be tucked in. School spirit shirts may be worn on designated days.
• Skirts, Jumpers and Skorts: Solid navy blue or tan and worn with an appropriate uniform shirt, blouse, or sweater. Leggings, shorts, or tights in uniform colors may be worn underneath.
• Shoes and Socks: Athletic or regular closed-toe shoes in good condition. Open-toed shoes are not permitted. Socks must be worn.
• Outerwear: Navy blue only. Jackets, sweatshirts, sweaters, and vests should not have logos, graphics, writing, or company symbols. School spirit outerwear is permitted.
• Hats: Navy blue, full-brimmed hats for sun protection may be worn outside school buildings only.
All clothing should be neat, clean, in good condition, and appropriately sized. Students who do not follow the District uniform guidelines may be referred for appropriate follow-up. If you have questions regarding uniforms, a waiver, or need assistance preparing for the school year, please contact your child’s school.
We also invite families to save the dates for our upcoming Back to School Nights on Wednesday, August 26, and Thursday, August 27. Your child’s school will provide information about its specific date, schedule, and activities, so please watch for announcements from your school.
Our principals, teachers, classified staff, and District team have been working hard to prepare our schools, and we cannot wait to welcome our students through the gates on Thursday morning.
